    Calf Rearing - Weaning to Heifer Rearing

    The course aims to cover all areas of heifer rearing to ensure a well grown heifer that calves down successfully, maximising calf survival and her own future lifetime productivity. Heifer nutrition, parasite control and prevention of infectious diseases will also be covered. Lastly management of heifers to ensure the safe delivery of the newborn calf is discussed.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Identify key infectious and parasitic diseases along with their control measures.
    • Optimal post weaning nutritional management to maximise growth, meet puberty, age of first service and age at calving targets.
    • Understand breeding strategy options available to achieve acceptable conception rates in a timely manner.
    • Manage the heifer around calving to minimise calving issues and ensure the safe delivery of the newborn calf.
